Matt Waite Pottery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

My pottery studio is in a converted cow shed at Stowford Manor Farm, just a couple of miles down the lane from Westwood towards Farleigh Castle and then along the river.
I established the pottery in 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before arriving at Stowford, I studied for a ceramics degree in Bristol in the mid 1980\u2019s, followed in the 1990\u2019s by working in potteries in Bath – Walcot Pottery and Iona Pottery on the Isle of Iona in the Hebrides. I worked as a production potter (throwing a range of wares all day every day!) which was invaluable in improving and honing my skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My pots have changed and evolved over the years and the pots that you can see here are a good representation of the tablewares that I have designed since arriving at Stowford. I make and develop all my glazes which can include wood ash, dug clay and estuary mud. I throw with a Cornish clay which is very durable, being fired to 1300\u00b0<\/em>C. The firing process is quite a labour of love, taking 18 hours or so, starting at 2am and running until 8pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I teach winter courses at Marsh Farm Pottery, Hilperton. These are \u2018improvers\u2019 courses for people with throwing experience. There are also courses for beginners. www.marshfarmpottery.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
